Qantas strike chaos to drag on to Christmas
October 11 2011, SMH
This article is talking about the Qantas engineers who are planning to walk off the job for 4 hours this Friday (14th October), this will ruin the flying plans of thousands of passengers and is likely to get worse leading up to Christmas. The Transport Workers Union is the organisation behind all this and it is all over protracted pay disputes, obviously more pay is wanted. This closely relates to the employment in commerce because it is talking about strikes- usually a result of discrimination. The unions exist to assist and fight for workers rights and they can facilitate a protest in the form of a strike when any form of discrimination takes place. Although in this case employees are fighting for better pay. Part of being employed is making sure the employer is meeting all the standards in terms of OH&S, pay, hours, breaks and many more. So this relates to commerce because it is talking about strikes, a something employees do when they are not happy with a certain thing.
