Sydney Ferry franchise process advances
July 5 2011, SMH
This article is talking about Sydney Ferries turning into a private franchise rather than government owned. Companies which apply may be short-listed to participate in a tender to see who will own the franchise later this year, companies like Captain Cook Cruises and even the Commonwealth Bank have applied to potentially own Sydney Ferries. Although this has its positives and negatives. On the positive side, the conditions of the ferries may improve with a soul company operating and investing money unlike the state government who has many other avenues like health to invest in. Although conversely, some negatives may include the price going up now being private and also this is one less asset for the NSW government. This relates to the commerce topic of business studies because it is a real life example of a privatisation and franchise of a company being Sydney Ferry.
